Tuesday, January 12, 2016 - Mile High Jazz Band plays at Comma Coffee, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Saturday, January 23, 2016 - I organize a Middle School and High School Jazz Workshop at Carson Middle School. This free workshop is sponsored by the Mile High Jazz Band Assoc.

Tuesday, January 26, 2016 - The Mile High Jazz Band, Carson Middle School Jazz Band, and the Carson High Jazz Band present the Jazz Extravaganza at the Carson City Community Center.

Tuesday, February 9, 2016 - Mile High Jazz Band performs at Comma Coffee, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony with jazz singer Madeline Eastman for "On the Jazzy Side," a concert at 4:00 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater. This concert includes four selections off her upcoming Metropole Orchestra recording arranged by Jeff Beal for orchestra.

Tuesday, March 10, 2016 - Mile High Jazz Band performs "Jazz & Poetry" at Comma Coffee, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

 

April 2016


Saturday, April 9, 2016 - I play tuba with the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra in Minden, Nev., at CVIC Hall. Concert is at 7:00 p.m.

Tuesday, April 12, 2016 - Mile High Jazz Band performs at Comma Coffee, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. We celebrate 15 years of performances at Comma Coffee.

Sunday, April 24, 2016 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony with singer Dr. Albert Lee in a "Spring Dreams" concert at 4:00 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater. Dr. Lee sang Mozart's concert aria "Misero! O sogno, o son desto?" and Donizetti's "Una furtiva lagrima" from L'Elisir d'Amore. The program also included Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 1 ("Spring"), Rossini's Overture to The Thieving Magpie, and Johann Strauss Jr's Voices of Spring Waltzes.

Saturday, April 30, 2016 - I perform on tuba with the Carson Valley Pops on a concert at the historic Piper's Opera House in Virginia City, Nev. I also arranged the choral part for the Voices of the Sierra Choral Group to sing with the orchestra on Robert Russell Bennett's arrangement of music from "Oklahoma!"

Saturday, May 14, 2016 - I perform on tuba with the Ruby Mountain Symphony on a concert in Elko, Nev.

Thursday, May 19, 2016 - I perform with a trio (Rocky Tatarelli on tenor sax, Neil Strocchio on drums, and me on piano) for the Carson-Tahoe Hospital Annual Volunteer Luncheon at the Carson Nugget. at 11:00 a.m.

Monday-Friday, June 6 to 10, 2016 - I assisted with a summer jazz camp. The Organizer-director was Nick Jacques, instrumental music director at Carson Middle School. Mile High Jazz Band Association, in cooperation with Carson Middle School presented this one-week Jazz Camp with sessions for middle- and high-school musicians, June 6-10, 2016, in the band room at Carson Middle School, 1140 W. King St. in Carson City. Beginning and advanced sessions are open to students from Carson City and surrounding areas in northern Nevada and California. The introductory Jazz Explorers Camp, from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. each day, is for middle-school students who want a sample of what playing jazz music is all about. It includes learning improvisation skills, rock, Latin, and swing styles. The Jazz Ensemble Camp, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. each day, is for experienced middle-school and high-school musicians, including graduated seniors. Students prepared pieces that cover rock, Latin, and swing styles. These students prepare for a performance with the Mile High Jazz Band on Tuesday, June 14, at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall.

Sunday, June 12, 2016 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony in the 32nd Annual "Pops Party" Concert at the Governor's Mansion at 3:00 p.m. The Symphony is joined by jazz singer Jakki Ford and the Carson City Symphony Chorus. This is a free event.

Tuesday, June 14, 2016 - I lead the Mile High Jazz Band; jazz vocalists Cindee LeVal, Jakki Ford, and June Joplin; and several poet-readers as they perform the "50th Jazz and Poetry: A Tribute to Bill Cowee (1942-2009)" on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. in the Performance Hall at the Brewery Arts Center, 511 W. King Street in Carson City. Acclaimed Nevada poet Bill Cowee inspired, and was the first poet to participate in, JAZZ and POETRY – first performed in 2003 at the Brewery Arts Center (and subsequently at Comma Coffee) and now a staple quarterly event. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the program begins at 7:00 p.m. with music by middle- and high-school students fresh from the MHJB Summer Jazz Camp (June 6 through 10).

Monday, July 4, 2016 - I play tuba with the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra in Heritage Park, Gardnerville, Nev. at 11:00 a.m.

Monday, July 4, 2016 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony, cowboy singer Richard Elloyan, and the Carson City Symphony Chorus in the Genoa Americana Celebration in Mormon Station State Park in Genoa at 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday, July 6, 2016 - I play trombone with harmonica player Tom Stryker's group Impromptu at the Lazy 5 Regional Park in Sparks, Nev.

Tuesday, July 12, 2016 - Mile High Jazz Band performs at Comma Coffee, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

 

August 2016


Aug. 5 thru 21, 2016 - I am the director of the "Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival." It encompasses 17 days of music and other art events. This involves More than 100 musicians in over 60 events. Bands include Reno Jazz Orchestra (with Trey Stone), Mile High Jazz Band, Beatles Flashback, Back Forty, Brass Knuckles, Lucky Diamond and the Gents o' Jive, New World Jazz Project, No Comprende, Red Tango, Red's Blues Trio, Rosebud’s Dance Band, SambaDá, Sagebrush Rebels, Millennium Bugs, Cherie and John Shipley with Take This, Musicole, Champagne Singers, and more!

Friday, Aug. 5, 2016 - Harmonica soloist Tom Stryker performs three of my arrangements for harmonica and orchestra at the Gala Concert at the 11th Asia Pacific Harmonica Festival at the Performance Hall of Hsinchu Country Cultural Affairs Bureau in Taiwan.

Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016 - Mile High Jazz Band performs at Comma Coffee as part of the "Jazz & Beyond" Festival, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016 - I perform with the Millennium Bugs at the Carson City Historical Society's Ice Cream Social from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 19, 2016 - I perform on trombone with Impromptu at the Nevada State Railroad Museum as part of the "Jazz & Beyond" Festival.

 

September 2016


Saturday, September 3, 2016 - Tom Styker, on harmonica, and I, on keyboard, perform at the Nevada Artists Association gallery in the Brewery Arts Center building for the Wine Walk sponsored by the Carson City Downtown Business Association.

Saturday, October 1, 2016 - I perform with the Millennium Bugs and Jakki Ford for a wedding at Whitney Peak Hotel in Reno.

Friday, October 7, 2016 - I perform on piano with the Millennium Bugs at the Mutual of Omaha Band picnic in Carson City, Nev.

Tuesday, October 11, 2016 - Mile High Jazz Band performs at Comma Coffee, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Sunday, October 16, 2016 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony with pianist Maria "Masha" Formina in a concert at 4:00 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater. The theme of the concert is "Poets, Priests, Puppets, & Piano." The program includes "Poet and Peasant" Overture by Suppé, Suite from "Coppélia" by Delibes, "War March of the Priests" by Mendelssohn, and Piano Concerto No. 1 by Beethoven.

Friday, Oct. 28, 2016 - I perform on tuba with Zephyrus Brass Quintet at the Nevada State Museum from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The Museum is celebrating its 75th anniversary. It is also the dedication day for the newly revamped downtown Carson St.

 

November 2016


Friday, Nov. 5, 2016 - I perform on tuba with Zephyrus Brass Quintet for reception following the funeral for Ben Gillard, former hornist with the Carson City Symphony and Carson Valley Pops Orchestra, and trumpet player with RoseBud's Dance Band. The ceremony took place at the LDS Church in Minden, Nev., just south of Douglas High School.

Tuesday, November 8, 2016 - Mile High Jazz Band performs "Election Night Jazz" with singer Jakki Ford at Comma Coffee, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016 - I perform on tuba with the Ruby Mountain Symphony in a concert at the Elko (Nev.) Convention Center at 2:00 p.m.

 

December 2016


Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 - I play tuba for Reno TUBACHRISTMAS at Wilbur D. May Museum in Reno. Concert is at 3:00 p.m.

Saturday, December 10, 2016 - I perform on tuba with the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra on their holiday concert.

Sunday, December 11, 2016 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony in the 33rd Annual Holiday Treat Concert at 4:00 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater. The Symphony will be joined on the program by the Carson City Symphony Chorus, the Carson High School Chamber Choir, and the Victorian Dancers. Pre-concert entertainment by the Consort Canzona instrumental ensemble begins at 3:00 p.m. in the lobby.

Tuesday, December, 2016 - Mile High Jazz Band performs "Jazz & Poetry: 'Twas the Night" with singers Jakki Ford and June Joplin at Comma Coffee, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
