January 2014


Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee - 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 - The Millennium Bugs, along with singer Sherre Carnes, perform for the Brewery Arts Center's "Winter Wine & All That Jazz" event, 7:00 to 9:45 p.m. at the Carson Nugget Ballroom. This is a fundraiser for the BAC.

Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2014 - It's "big-band jazz times three" when the Carson High Jazz Band and the Mile High Jazz Band present their eleventh annual combined concert, the Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza, on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, 7:00 p.m., in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street, Carson City. This year the two bands will be joined by the Carson Middle School Jazz Band, under the direction of Nick Jacques. The Extravaganza is sponsored by the Mile High Jazz Band Association and the Carson City Band Association as a benefit for Carson High music programs. Tickets prices are $12 general admission, $10 students and seniors (62+), and $5 for youth age 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased in advance from Carson High Band members, at Play Your Own Music in the Carson Mall, online at MileHighJazz.com, or at the door. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee - 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 - I perform on trombone with Gil Linsley (trumpet), Jimmy Vermillion (piano), Dan Lancaster (reeds), and Mark Ashworth (drums) at Sierra Place, 2:30-3:30.

Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 - I perform on keyboard with Linda Arnn (vocals) and Neal Strocchio (drums) at plan:B microlounge in Carson City from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m.

Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony as it presents the third concert of its thirtieth season on Sunday, February 23, 2014, 4:00 p.m., at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater, 851 E. William Street in Carson City. Featured guest soloist is clarinetist Chris Money playing Carl Maria von Weber's Clarinet Concerto No. 2. Also on the program is Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 in E minor ("From the New World") and Weber's Overture to Der Freischütz. Tickets are $15 general admission; $12 for seniors, students, and Symphony Association members; and free for youth age 16 and under. Tickets will be on sale at Play Your Own Music in the Carson Mall, online at CCSymphony.com, and at the door. The audience is invited to a free concert preview in the Sierra Room at 3:15 p.m. The preview, hosted by me, will include discussions with soloist Chris Money about the concert, composers, and music.

Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014 - I perform on keyboard with violinist Janet Cox for a reception at the Pennington Health Sciences Building at the University of Nevada, Reno from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, March 8, 2014 - The Millennium Bugs, along with vocalist Jakki Ford, perform for the Carson City Sunset Rotary's Mardi Gras Party at the Carson Nugget from 5:00 to 11:00 p.m.

Tuesday, March 11, 2014 - Mile High Jazz Band presents "Jazz & Poetry" at Comma Coffee. Poems are curated by Rita Geil. - 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Thursday, March 20, 2014 - Carson City's Choir Palooza (a Carson High School Invitational event which consists of all elementary, middle school and high school choirs) at Carson High School Gym at 7:00 p.m. sings several versions of my arrangement of "Home Means Nevada" (combined) for chorus and piano only.

Friday, March 21, 2014 - STRAZZ performs for the Nevada Sesquicentennial Cake Event at Carson-Tahoe Hospital from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. I lead STRAZZ and the celebrants in the singing of "Home Means Nevada," accompanied by my "level 3" arrangement of the song for string orchestra.

 

April 2014


Saturday, April 5, 2014 - I play tuba and tenor trombone with the Ruby Mountain Symphony in Elko, NV. Concert is at 7:00 p.m. in the Elko Convention Center. The program includes my arrangement of Bertha Raffetto's "Home Means Nevada" (Nevada's official state song) in a version for orchestra only.

Tuesday, April 8, 2014 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee, celebrating our 13th anniversary of monthly performances at Comma Coffee - 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Friday, April 25, 2014 - I accompany violinist Andrew Sords on a few pieces on a house recital & lecture in Jacks Valley at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, April 27, 2014 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony at 4:00 p.m. The Symphony will be playing "Sagebrush Celebration," a newly commissioned work by Cambridge, Mass., composer Carson Coomer in honor of the Symphony's 30th season. This is an Official Event of the Nevada Sesquicentennial Celebration. Joining us on the program is violinist Andrew Sords playing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. Also on the program is Bizet's "L'Arlesienne Suite No. 2," and my "Ruby Mountain Reflections," a work written for the Ruby Mountain Symphony in Elko in 2012 in honor of their 25th season.

Saturday, May 3, 2014 - Mile High Jazz Band Association presents a Middle School Jazz Workshop at Carson Middle School from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. I am one of the coordinators and one of the clinicians.

Saturday, May 3, 2014 - Bella Voce Women's Ensemble performs my arrangement of Bertha Raffetto's "Home Means Nevada" for SSA women's choir and piano at First United Methodist Church, Carson City, 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, May 4, 2014 - Bella Voce Women's Ensemble performs my arrangement of Bertha Raffetto's "Home Means Nevada" for SSA women's choir and piano at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Reno, 4:30 p.m.

Saturday, May 17, 2014 - "David and Friends," my little pick-up group, performs for the CCBAI fundraiser at Empire Ranch Golf Course at 4:30 p.m.

Tuesday, May 13, 2014 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee - 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

 

June 2014


Sunday, June 8, 2014 - 4:00 p.m., I conduct the Carson City Symphony in its 30th annual "Pops Party" Concert at the Governor's Mansion at 3:00 p.m. The Symphony will be joined by the Carson Chamber Singers, Youth Strings, and guest vocalists Sherre Carnes and Cindee LeVal. Admission is free.

Tuesday, June 10, 2014 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee - 7:30-9:30 p.m. This is a "Jazz & Poetry" event, and the theme for the night is "Hide & Seek." Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Thursday, June 19, 2014 - Zephyrus Brass Quintet plays for Gardnerville Wine Walk at 5:00 p.m. I perform on tuba.

Saturday, June 21, 2014 - The Millennium Bugs play for Taste of Downtown at the Carson Mall. Free entertainment.

Friday, June 27, 2014 - The Millennium Bugs play for the Carson City Chamber of Commerce annual meeting at the Carson City Senior Center and at Lone Mountain Cemetery from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. The event has a New Orleans theme and involves the unveiling of information plaques in Lone Mountain Cemetery by the Leadership Class.

 

July 2014


Friday, July 4, 2014 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony at 4:00 p.m. in Genoa, NV, as part of a "Genoa Americana Celebration" Fourth of July celebration. The Carson City Symphony will perform with guest performer McAvoy Layne, portraying Mark Twain, at 4:30 p.m. at Mormon Station State Park, Genoa. Parade, festivities, bands, and workshops begin 10:00 a.m. This one-day musical event will celebrate our nation's birthday. The year 2014 is also the sesquicentennial (150th birthday) for the state of Nevada! This celebration will include live musical performances (Bluegrass, String Band, Dixieland, and Americana) prior to the Carson City Symphony performance, educational activities, children's activities, jamming, food and more! Best of all, it's a FREE community event (although donations will be gratefully accepted). A parade and festivities start at 10:00 a.m. This festival is produced by the Traditional American Music Project, Inc. (TRAMP), a 501(c)(3) Arts & Education Organization.

Aug. 1 through 17, 2014 - The Mile High Jazz Band Association presents "Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival" in various locations around the city. Details will be posted on JazzCarsonCity.com.

Saturday, August 9, 2014 - The Millennium Bugs perform for the Carson City Historical Society's Annual Ice Cream Social at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum. Free event starts at 6:00 p.m.

Monday, August 11, 2014 - The Mile High Jazz Band performs with guest artist trombonist Bill Watrous at the Carson City Community Center - 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $15 admission.

 

September 2014


Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee - 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014 - I perform, on piano, with Janet Cox, on violin, for a wedding at the Greek Orthodox Church in Reno (2:30 p.m.).

 

October 2014


Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee - 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under. (Note: This is one week earlier than our normal "second Tuesday" gig at Comma Coffee.)

Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014 - I perform on tuba with the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra. The free concert is at 7:00 p.m. at CVIC Hall in Minden, NV.

Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014 - The Reno Philharmonic my arrangement of Bertha Raffetto's "Home Means Nevada" (Nevada's official state song) for orchestra and chorus. Concert at 7:30 p.m. (I will not be able to participate in the concert preview at 7:00 p.m.)

Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014 - The Reno Philharmonic my arrangement of Bertha Raffetto's "Home Means Nevada" (Nevada's official state song) for orchestra and chorus. Concert at 4:00 p.m. I will participate in the concert preview at 3:00 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014 - The Reno Philharmonic my arrangement of Bertha Raffetto's "Home Means Nevada" (Nevada's official state song) for orchestra and chorus. Concert at 7:30 p.m. I will participate in the concert preview at 7:00 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony at 4:00 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center in a concert honoring Nevada's Sesquicentennial. The program includes my complete arrangement of Bertha Raffetto's "Home Means Nevada" (Nevada's official state song) in the version for full orchestra and chorus.

Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014 - The Reno Philharmonic performs a first pair of Young People's Concerts (10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.) at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts in Reno. They will perform my arrangement of "Las Chiapanencas."

Monday, Nov. 17, 2014 - The Reno Philharmonic performs a second pair of Young People's Concerts (10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.) at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts in Reno. They will perform my arrangement of "Las Chiapanencas."

Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014 - I play tuba with the Ruby Mountain Symphony in Elko, NV. Concert is at 7:00 p.m. in the Elko Convention Center. The Symphony performs my "Becoming Mark Twain" with McAvoy Layne narrating the part of Mark Twain. The program also includes my complete arrangement of Bertha Raffetto's "Home Means Nevada" (Nevada's official state song) in the version for full orchestra and chorus.

Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014 - The Reno Philharmonic presents its "Spirit of the Season Concert" with Dr. Jason Altieri conducting (2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. performances). They will be performing my "En Esta Noche Tan Fria," a set of Spanish-language carols arranged for two groups of harps and orchestra. Twenty-six harpists are scheduled to perform this.
