January 2013


Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee - 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 - I perform on keyboard and trombone with the Millennium Bugs. Enjoy an evening of wine tasting and dancing to benefit the Brewery Arts Center. The event is call "Winter Wine & All That Jazz," and "all that jazz" is presented by the Millennium Bugs. The event is from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Carson Nugget Ballroom. Experience exceptional wines from the finest vineyards, live music, and light hors d'oeuvres.

Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 - I perform on tuba with the Zephyrus Brass Quintet, an affiliate of the Carson City Symphony. We will play for the "Blood Drive for Life" event at Carson Mall. The Quintet will play from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., but the event, as a whole, is from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and is sponsored by Northern Nevada Youth Football League and United Blood Services. This marks the second appearance by Zephyrus at the Carson Mall. The members of the group are Bob Masters and Alan Catron, trumpets; Lin Nelson, horn; Paul Jorgensen, trombone; and David Bugli, tuba.

Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013 - Tenth Annual Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza at the Carson City Community Center, 7:30 p.m. - The concert, sponsored by the Carson High Jazz Band and the Mile High Jazz Band Association, is a benefit for the Carson High Jazz Band programs. The Extravaganza will include two big bands, a combo performance, and a grand finale combining the forces of both big bands.

 

February 2013


Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee presents a "Jazz Sampler for Sweethearts," which features the 19-member Mile High Jazz Band with vocalists Sheryl Adams and June Joplin. We present jazzy versions of favorite love songs (to put you in the mood for the up-coming Valentine's Day), and other swinging, big-band selections. Time: 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 - I perform with Rosebud's Dance Band on piano for a dance at 7:00 p.m. at the CVIC Hall in Minden, Nev.

Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 - I perform on keyboard and trombone with the Millennium Bugs. The event is for the 20/30 Club in Gardnerville, Nev. "Nite Cap" is from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Lentine's on Mill St. and Highway 395 in Minden/Gardnerville. The Carson Valley #85 Club will be accepting donations to aid in its local student study rewards program (or tickets are five dollars). The event is open to all, especially supporters of Carson Valley Days, promoting jazz in our community, and the local 20-30 Club.

Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013 - The Carson City Symphony, under my direction, will present a concert titled "Legends, Fairy Tales, and Dances" on Sunday, at 4:00 p.m. at Bob Boldrick Theater in the the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street. Guest soloist Eric Fassbender will perform the Bassoon Concerto by Nino Rota, noted composer for movies. Symphony musician Yumi Anthenien will be featured on English horn on the beautiful and haunting "The Swan of Tuonela" by Jean Sibelius. The orchestra will also perform Gioachino Rossini's "La Cenerentola Overture" ("Cinderella Overture") and three Slavonic Dances by Antonin Dvorak. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013 - I play piano with the Maytan Big Band for a clinic (workshop) at Sparks Middle School in Sparks, NV, starting at 11:30 a.m. Lee Warner is the organizer of this event.

Saturday, March 9, 2013 - I perform on tuba with the Zephyrus Brass Quintet, an affiliate of the Carson City Symphony, at a Talent Show at CVIC Hall in Minden, Nev., at 7:00 p.m. This is a fundraiser for the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra.

Tuesday, March 12, 2013 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee. This is a "Jazz & Poetry" event, and the theme is "Breaking the Ice." - 7:30-9:30 p.m. Come and enjoy poetry read by poets Rita Geil, Amy Roby, Krista Lukas, Susan Sara Priest, Asha Anderson, Tim Rhodes, Wayne Carlson, and Joe Crowley, along with a lot of great big band music. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Thursday, March 28, 2013 - I perform on keyboard and trombone with the Millennium Bugs. We are playing for greenUP!'s 25th annual Golden Pinecone Awards Ceremony at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino in Reno from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The event honors six winners in various categories of environmental and sustainability efforts and environmental leadership.

 

April 2013


Friday, April 6, 2013 - I play tuba with the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra in a concert that starts at 7:00 p.m. at the CVIC Hall in Minden, Nev.

Tuesday, April 9, 2013 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee, Our 12th anniversary playing at Comma Coffee!!- 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Saturday, April 13, 2013 - I perform on tuba with the Ruby Mountain Symphony in Elko, 7:00 p.m. Also, my "Horse Tails: Songs of Cowboys and Cowgirls for Youth Orchestra and Concert Orchestra" will be on the program.

Thursday, April 25, 2013 - I perform on keyboard and trombone with a small combo at a "Speakeasy" event at The Lodge, an assisted care & memory care community, at 2200 E. Long St., Carson City. Joining me on the gig are Rocky Tatarelli, tenor sax; George Worth, bass and valve trombone; and Lee Warner, drums. We play from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Sunday, April 28, 2013 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony in a 4:00 p.m. concert at the Carson City Community Center with cello soloist Steve Framil playing the Dvorak Cello Concerto. Also on the program is Wagner's Overture to "Rienzi" and Schubert's "Unfinished" Symphony.

 

May 2013


Tuesday, May 7, 2013 - I do a presentation on music in Carson City to the meeting of the local chapter of Retired Public Employee's of Nevada (RPEN) at 2:00 p.m. at the Carson City Senior Citizen's Center, 911 Beverly Drive, Carson City.

Tuesday, May 14, 2013 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee - 7:30-9:30 p.m. Joining us on the program are vocalists Jakki Ford and Cindee LeVal. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Thursday, May 16, 2013 - I perform on tuba with Zephyrus Brass Quintet, an affiliate of the Carson City Symphony, at the Wine Walk in Gardnerville, on route 395 opposite the JT Bar, from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. - Event was POSTPONED due to inclement weather.

Saturday, May 18, 2013 - The Mile High Jazz Band, in cooperation with the Carson High School band program, presents a free jazz and combo workshop for middle school students at Carson High School. The workshop begins at 10:00 a.m. and concludes with a concert at 3:00 p.m. that is open to the public.

 

June 2013


Tuesday, June 4, 2013 - I perform on tuba with Zephyrus Brass Quintet, an affiliate of the Carson City Symphony, for two morning school assemblies at Bordewich-Bray Elementary School in Carson City.

Sunday, June 9, 2013 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony in our Pops Party at the Governor's Mansion with singer Jakki Ford, 3:00 p.m. The theme for the concert is "At the Movies."

Tuesday, June 11, 2013 - Mile High Jazz Band presents "Jazz & Poetry" at Comma Coffee The theme for the night is "Farewell, Goodnight," and poems are curated by Krista Lukas. - 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Saturday, June 15, 2013 - I perform on keyboard and trombone with the Millennium Bugs at Carson Mall for the Taste of Downtown event. We will perform from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on the east side of Carson Mall, near Schatt's Bakery. For information about the Taste of Downtown, go to http://tasteofdowntowncarson.com.

Thurs., July 4, 2013 - I perform on tuba with the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra in Minden Park, starting at 12:30 p.m.

Thurs., July 4, 2013, at 4:00 p.m., Sierra Philharmonic League's "Pops in the Park" - Reno Philhamonic Concert. I'm singing as part of the chorus (Carson Chamber Singers and Reno Philharmonic Chorus).

Sunday, July 7, 2013 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony in a 5:00 p.m. concert for Artown at Trinity Episcopal Church in Reno, NV. The theme is "Movies and More." Guest soloists are Jakki Ford, voice; Eric Fassbender; and Michael Langham, organ.

Tuesday, July 9, 2013 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee - 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Sat., July 27, 2013 - I play cocktail piano at the Carson Valley Inn for the Pierce Arrow Society event, starting around 5:30 p.m.

 

August 2013


Aug. 2 through 18, 2013 - The Mile High Jazz Band Association presents "Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival" in various locations around the city. Details will be posted on JazzCarsonCity.com.

Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013 - The Millennium Bugs perform from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. for the Carson City Historical Society's annual Ice Cream Social at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum. This is part of the "Jazz & Beyond" Carson City Music Festival.

Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013 - The Millennium Bugs perform at Comma Coffee - 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under. (Normally, the Mile High Jazz Band plays on the second Tuesday of each month at Comma Coffee, but since the MHJB is play on Aug. 17, the smaller group is being featured.)

Sat., Aug. 17, 2013 - Mile High Jazz Band performs on Third Street as part of "Jazz & Beyond" - 8:00-10:00 p.m. Admission: FREE

Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013 - Mile High Jazz Band presents "Jazz & Poetry" at Comma Coffee The theme for the night is "About Face," and poems are curated by Rita Geil. - 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013 - David & Friends (Rocky Tatarelli on tenor sax and Dennis Steele on drums, with me on keyboard) perform at The Lodge in Carson City from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The theme is "Sole Mates," and the event is planned to help obtain footwear for children who need shoes.

 

October 2013


Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013 - I perform on tuba with the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra. The free concert is at 7:00 p.m. at CVIC Hall in Minden, NV.

Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee - 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013 - The Millennium Bugs (quartet only) perform at Harvey's Top of the Wheel in Stateline, NV, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for a Nevada APA (planning association) conference.

Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony at 4:00 p.m. in a concert called "The Lure of Tropics and Travel," featuring guest piano soloist Joshua Russell. Dr. Russell is regarded as an expert on the piano music of Haiti, and he has performed as a pianist, organist, and conductor throughout the United States, Europe, and Haiti. He will play two pieces with the Symphony: Fantaisie tropicale by Haitian composer Justin Elie, and Grande tarantelle by New Orleans native Louis Moreau Gottschalk. The concert also includes Andalucia Suite by Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona and Symphony No. 1 by Franz Schubert.

 

November 2013

Saturday, Nov. 11, 2013 - I play tuba with the Ruby Mountain Symphony in Elko, NV. Concert is at 7:00 p.m. in the Elko Convention Center.

Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013 - David & Friends (Dan Lancaster on reeds and Lee Warner on drums, with me on keyboard) play for the RPEN (Retired Public Employees of Nevada) Christmas Party at the Fandango Casino, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Tuesday, December 10, 2013 - Mile High Jazz Band presents "Jazz & Poetry" at Comma Coffee. The theme for the night is "Past & Present," and poems are curated by Rita Geil. - 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Friday, Dec. 13, 2013 - The Millennium Bugs play for the TRPA (Tahoe Regional Planning Association) holiday party at Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel (formerly Embassy Suites), South Lake Tahoe, CA, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013 - I perform on tuba with the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra. This free concert is at 7:00 p.m. at CVIC Hall in Minden, NV.

Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony as it presents the 30th annual Holiday Treat concert at 4:00 p.m., at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street. The Symphony will be joined on the program by the Carson City Symphony Chorus and the Norma Conway's Victorian Dancers. Pre-concert entertainment by the Carson High School Brass Ensemble begins at 3:00 p.m. in the lobby. Tickets are $15 general admission; $12 for seniors, students, and Symphony Association members; and free for children age 16 and under.

Friday, Dec. 20, 2013 - I play electric bass on the the sixth annual Christmas Carol Playalong from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., inside the Carson Mall, 1227 S. Carson Street. The event is free and open to the public.
